Interconnections in Data Center

Publisher: Psychz Networks,  August 06,2018

Interconnection allows networking of two or more different data centers to achieve business communication. This interconnectivity between separate networks enables them to work together, share resources and/or pass workloads between one another.

  • Cross Connect
  • Metro Connect
  • Internet Exchange

All the critical connections take place in the “Meet-Me-Room” (MMR) in any Data Center.

There are several types of connections inside the Data Center. We'll discuss some of them now

Cross Connect

Cross connects is a representation of physical cables that connect two different networks within a data center. Cross connects can be used to create a more diverse, robust system of networks.By doing this, the network offers lower latency as it bypasses any provider and directly connects you and your carrier network.
With cross connect you can have access to several options of carriers giving you the advantage to choose the right one basis of their connection and reliability and not to forget the pricing.

Metro Connect

Metro Connect is a basically a fiber-based service that offers higher bandwidth of 1G or 10G and higher. It is a highly reliable network connection between data centers, connecting you to the resources you need within the same metro space. This can be a connection between two Data Centers of the colocation service provider you choose in case you have multiple deployments, or a connection from one of the service provider facilities to a traditional “carrier” within the same market.
With Metro Connect you have dedicated access to service providers and enterprise clients in data centers within the same markets at a variety of connection speeds.

Internet Exchange

As the name suggests, the Internet Exchange allows several ISPs to exchange traffic within the Data Center. It allows network providers to share transit outside their own network. The Internet Exchange allows members to establish peering relationships with other members across a common switching platform. Once those peering relationships have been established, members may share traffic without incurring additional IP transit charges.
