Czy jest jakiś sposób na rozwiązanie problemu utraty pakietów? Jakie kroki mogę podjąć?

What is packet loss issue? We all know that the data is transmitted over a network fragmented into segments known as packets. The transmission of data between two endpoints of a network is achieved by the means of a transmission medium and a set of protocols that define the data flow. We would ideally want the network elements to work perfectly and no data loss would occur. But, in reality, it is not the case. There are some phenomena that hinder the flow of data and cause packets loss. Packet loss can be caused due to discrepancies in hardware, software or transmission media. Some of the crucial factors that cause packet loss are listed below with the solutions to fix them.

Transmission media

Packet loss can be caused due to problems in transmission media or its configuration. The following are some of the factors of packet loss due to transmission media.

Congestion

Sometimes the transmission media does not have the capacity to handle the amount of data packets flowing through it. For instance, a channel of capacity 50 Mbps can transmit the data at 50 Mbps or less. If the data flow more than 50 Mbps, the channel will not be able to handle it resulting in packet loss. The only way to fix this is increasing the capacity of the transmission media as per the requirement of your network.

Duplex Mismatch

A duplex channel is a channel in which there is a bidirectional flow of data. Both endpoints of a duplex channel should have the same settings in terms of speed and mode of transmission. In the case of different settings, the channel flow does not synchronize which causes packet loss. The only fix for this is to synchronize both endpoints to same settings.

Wiring or cabling

Sometimes the cause of packet loss is faulty wiring. Some damaged or poorly installed wire that is connecting the network elements might be the cause of packet loss. This is due to the interrupted flow of electrical signals flowing through it. The only solution to this is to get the cables replaced.

Firewall

The firewall is used to filter the packets and block the inflow of unwanted packets. Please check the firewall settings you might have configured that is blocking the flow of packets.

Hardware

The network is a web of multiple devices connected to each other. Sometimes, a network device may be faulty causing the packet loss. It is recommended that you replace the hardware immediately.
An outdated hardware can also be the cause of packet loss. Please keep all your hardware updated by updating the drivers.

These are some of the critical factors that result in packet loss. To ensure the functioning of your network at optimum capacity, all the network elements should be maintained and configured properly.
