Amazon Web Services offers you four variants of packages for EC2 that you can avail from. The packages are On-Demand, Reserved Instances, Spot Instances and Dedicated Host.
1. On-Demand - In On-Demand type of service, you can order EC2 on an hourly basis. You just have to choose the computing capacity you desire and pay for it on an hourly basis without any commitment or prior payment. Hence, if you are not looking for using the services for long, this package can work for you.
2. Spot Instances - This type of package is suitable for users that need an affordable instance for a short duration of time. The Spot Instances works on a bidding process. If you need an instance at a certain rate, you can put up your bid and the instance will be provided to you based on the bid. The instance will run until you terminate the process or the price of the instances cross your bid. After that, you will be given a warning that your process is about to terminate.
3. Reserved Instances - It is the same as On-Demand Instances, the only difference being that you would have to commit to a fixed period. If you are looking for a long term solution, then you can choose from Reserved Instances.
4. Dedicated Hosts - It is the process that comes closest to dedicated server hosting. In this type of service, AWS provides you with a server with dedicated instances for your use. You pay hourly for each active dedicated host. Whether you use a single or multiple instances, you will be charged the same. You can allocate the number of sockets and physical instances per host and will be charged in accordance with it.
The cheapest package in this category is c4, which contains multiple variants in itself. The "c4" is a computing version with a maximum of 60 GB RAM and 4000 Mbps storage with no storage and comes down to 1.75 dollars an hour or about 1200 dollars a month.
There are other options like M4 general purpose processor that is about 2.42 dollars a month. It comprises of SSD Storage with a maximum of 256 GB RAM. However, these are not absolute values as you can choose from a range of options.
