  • Dedicated Server with 10 Gbps and NVME Storage

I see that 10 gbps port is available for dedicated servers but wondering what kind of storage will work with 10 Gbps port.  Is a standard SSD enough or should a server be ordered with NVME storage only?  What about CPU and RAM requirements to make sure 10 Gbps port is being utilized properly?

Using a high-frequency/higher cores Intel processor technology and their Turbo Boost coupled with the speed of NVMe storage can offer you ultimate server performance. With up to 6x better performance compared to classic SSD disks, NVMe drives are the new benchmark for fast storage. This next-generation solid-state storage technology is defined to efficiently support the needs of enterprise and client systems utilizing PCI Express.

Compared with other interfaces designed for mechanical storage devices, NVMe reduces latency and delivers higher Input/ Output per Second (IOPS). However, you will need higher CPU speed and good memory size to go along with NVMe drives. Since NVMe drives deliver higher input/output per second, the CPU and RAM should be capable of processing and delivering that much data to read and write. CPU with a larger number of Cores will give much better performance compared to ones that have higher speed but a low number of cores.

So, if you are running a game server or if you are into the online streaming business, then you can opt for high performing server with the following configuration

  • CPU:  E5-1650 V4 | 6 cores
  • Memory: 32 GB
  • Primary Storage: 256 GB NVMe (For better read/write performance)
  • Secondary Storage: 1 TB HDD
  • Port Speed: 10 Gbps

The above configuration should give you an optimum result and will make proper utilization of 10 Gbps port speed giving you higher input/output speed.
