We are glad that you've moved from a shared server to a dedicated server and we'll be more than happy to help you to understand your server and how to make use of cPanel.
So what is cPanel meant for?
It is your control panel where you can customize your hosting account like
-adding/deleting email accounts
-changing passwords of email accounts
-modifying MC records
-configure new domains
-create sub-domains
-create FTP accounts or use file manager to access your files and much more
It is very easy to use control panel with all the options available in the form of buttons on the dashboard. We'll give you a brief insight on how to use basics of cPanel and then you can go and explore it on your own.
How to login to cPanel?
Step 1. You can simply use a URL to login to your cPanel account.
Step 2. Type the following into your browser yoursitename.com/cpanel (Here 'yoursitename.com' is actually your registered site address. )
Step 3. Once you enter the above URL in your browser, you will get a login screen where you need to use your cPanel username and password.
Changing your cPanel password
Step 1: Login to your cPanel using the method given above.
Step 2: Once you are logged in, on the dashboard you will see option "Preferences". Under the "Preferences" section click on "Password & Security".
Step 3: You will then be able to change your password by filling in the fields, and clicking the Change your password now! button.
Note: Be sure to use a strong password.
Monitor your Server activity
The most important thing when you begin exploring cPanel is to make a note of your server’s information. The sidebar includes 'General Information' that holds information about your current service/package, and also shows 'Statistics' which include important information about your server like CPU usage, Physical Memory, Disk usage, etc. These information can come in handy when you feel that your server is experiencing lag.
It is also important to know things like your server’s operating system, applications, kernel version, hosting information, and IP address is critical.
Configuring CSF on your cPanel Server
ConfigServer & Security Firewall (CSF) is popular for cPanel servers security. It prevents your server from DDOS attacks.
Step 1 – Install CSF Firewall
Note: First download latest source code of CSF firewall and extract
# tar xfz csf.tgz
# cd csf
After extracting latest code from your system. Execute install.sh script to install CSF on your system. The installer will automatically detect for cPanel server and install required modules for it.
#sh install.sh
Access control using the IP Deny Manager
Step 1. Login into your cPanel.
Step 2. Navigate to the Security section and click the IP Blocker icon. The following table explains what formats you can use to block Ips. ...
Step 3. Enter the IP you want to block
Step 4. Click the Add button.
Done! You will be directed to a success page. Click Go Back.
