PDU Recommendations with SNMP and Port Power Monitoring

Power distribution is a critical part of rack solution and Industry can't afford down time or failure of this product, as this directly impact operation of Mission Critical Equipments further affecting business process.

Today, most of the PDUs are Internet ready which are designed and equipped with an intelligent current-meter to indicate the total power consumption of a power strip. These PDU are easy to set up and comes along with a user-friendly communication software. With the help of this software you can remotely monitor multiple PDU power consumption to understand the total current power consumption and utilization in real time.

These PDUs comes with following features

  • Real time to control each outlet of PDU.
  • Build-in web server, manager can real time monitor the current consumption of the power strip.
  • Support the SNMP

In the following article we will try to understand the criticality, usage and specifications of some of the PDUs available in the market by leading manufacturers.

APC AP8441
(Rack PDU 2G, Metered by Outlet, ZeroU, 200/208V)

The APC AP8441 is power distribution unit which is metered by outlet, which means that it provides real time remote monitoring of connected loads. The power utilization data provided by the Metered Rack PDUs can help in making informed decisions about load balancing further reducing additional costs. It can also be accessed remotely through Secure Web, SNMP or Telnet interfaces.

Some of the specifications of APC AP8441 are listed below.
