What happens during a DDoS attack?

Broadly speaking, when your server is under DDoS(Distributed Denial of Service) attack it experiences high inflow of data that depletes the server performance or even leads to server crash. What happens basically is that the malicious users that intend to cause harm to your server induce bots to anonymous systems all around the world. These bots can be controlled remotely and are designed to perform specific tasks. When the user intends to perform a DDos attack, he/she simply has to activate the bots. These bots, millions in number, start flooding the server with garbage data. The server, not able to take that kind of load either fails or is not able to allocate resources to genuine users.

Some types of DDoS attacks are mentioned below.
SYN Flood
UDP Flood
HTTP Flood
Ping of Death

These type of attacks can be hazardous to your business. Hence, a lot of precautionary steps should be taken to mitigate and identify these attacks. There are a plethora of tools available to monitor and mitigate these attacks. Some of these tools are mentioned in our article below. Please go through it to have a clear understanding on how these tools work.
